Wacken rocks Seaside

Wacken has been the place to be for friends of heavy music for 19 years now, a mecca for Metal and Hardrock fans all over the planet: The Wacken:Open:Air (W:O:A:), the biggest metal festival of the world, takes place every year at the first weekend of August in the small town of the same name, located in the very North of Germany.

Last year, an impressive 72000 people attended! On Feb 15th, 2008 it was announced, that the W:O:A: was even nominated for the Live Entertainment Award in the category "Best Festival", with the award show scheduled for March 11th in Hamburg.

What got started by ICS Festival Service GmbH from Dörpstedt/Germany as a small festival for 800 visitors turned into one of the most successful music festivals of the world. Metal might have spent several years as an underground phenomenom especially during the Nineties, but these days heavy music and threatening poses are respectable again...

Now, another high class Rock and Metal event is coming to Aurich on Saturday, July 5th, 2009: "Wacken rocks Seaside" is the only Open Air apart from the original that is allowed to carry the name "Wacken". For years, Marema Veranstaltungen from East Frisia and ICS from the North have been sharing ideas and interests, leading to the first cooperation with "Wacken rocks Seaside" in 2008, which also follows requests from their fanbase to support the concert scene in regions which are structurally less strong.

A trademark of Wacken has always been high quality handmade music, played loudly – and Aurich will not offer anything less, as well-respected artists from the Hardrock and Metal field will perform on July 5th:

Motörhead as the headliners of the one-day event will once again prove why they have reached cult status even beyond the world of Rock. Machine Head,
who already left their mark in modern h H eavy Metal after emerging from
the infamous Bay Area Thrash scene as the forerunners of the Neo Thrash genre, collected several Platin awards for their equally contemporary and fierce music and a penchant for the new and extraordinary.

Their legendary history, the magic of the music and the depth of the lyrics are all responsible for he fascination that emanates from british group Saxon, who have just released "The Inner Sanctum" showcasing their distinctive style, starting and ending with real Heavy Metal and offering some Rock'n'Roll in between. If you have known Saxon since the Eighties and witnessed how the band developed without losing their trademarks, you will be excited by "The Inner Sanctum".

Also on the bill are cult rockers Torfrock, who are well-known especially in Northern Germany. They have been chosen for a reason, after having played the W:O:A: itself a couple of years back.

This holds true for all the bands above: Each of them has graced the stages of the Wacken:Open:Air, some on a regular basis since the Nineties. This time they won't play Wacken itself however, but Aurich instead – so the unique selling point is guaranteed.

The line-up will be completed in the next few weeks, so expect a rockin'
party in Aurich-Tannenhausen. The name alone says it all: "Wacken rocks Seaside"...
