Is a Gothic Metal band from Portugal, hailing from the suburbs ofthe country’s capital, Lisbon. They were formed under the monicker of Morbid God and made their debut on the legendary Portuguese Metal compilation, The Birth ofa Tragedy, released in 1992. They had great underground response and decided to change their name to the actual MOONSPELL. After three years of national touring, a demo tape, an EP and a mini CD, Under the Moonspell, released by the French underground label Adipocere, they were signed by German’s Century Media which would not only release their classic 1995 album Wolfheart but five other álbuns which saw the band evolve and grow to heights never expected and never seen for a Portuguese Rock band.
Their breakthrough came with the second álbum Irreligious which featured the smash hit Opium that helped the album rocket into a 80.000 units sold just in Germany. The intensive tour work done with Wolfheart, which already featured fan all-­‐time favourites Alma Mater and Vampiria, the band was finally able to appeal to a larger audience supporting Type o Negative and hitting the stage ofthe best European Metal and alternative Summer festivals.
Since then the band has released six other álbuns (Sin/Pecado, The Butterfly effect, Darkness and Hope, The Antidote, Memorial and Night Eternal) and has been enjoying an international success, being elected Best Portuguese Acto in MTV European Awards in the year of 2007. The band still Tours extensively and has played over 40 countries so far, in headliner club shows, supports Tours and festivals ranging from across the USA, to most of Europe, Midlle East and África.
Just returned from a string of festivals in Europe the band is actually recording their 9th studio album scheduled for an early 2012 release. The band has described this new work as “one of the most exciting collection of songs” they have worked on together.

Before the end of the year the band is going on a headliner Spanish tour where they will play an old-­‐school, vintage set especially for their fans and in the Xmas week they will round up the year with some dates in Germany, Áustria and Switzerland.
Also confirmed is the Halloween (3 1/10) night show the band has been doing in Portugal in several occasions where they will play their first, cult album Wolfheart in its entirety and to where fans from all around the world will travel to watch this special occasion. With the release of the new album the band is planning to host another Metal Day in Lisbon, that in January 2009 gathered 4000 strong in Portugal’s capitol.
